Creepy Finger Biscuits

This simple recipe makes 24 deliciously creepy finger biscuits. Mix the ingredients to form a lemon-flavoured dough, then shape into finger-thick rolls and draw on some lines for knuckles. Add a flaked almond for a broken nail effect and then bake. You can even serve them standing in bowls of strawberry jam for a really gruesome centrepiece.

Ingredients

  • 125 g (4oz) Flora Buttery
  • 125 g (4oz) sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp lemon zest (finely grated)
  • 250 g (9oz) plain flour
  • 50 g (2oz) flaked almonds

Directions

  1. Beat together the Flora and sugar.
  2. Add egg yolks and lemon zest and mix well.
  3. Add the flour and knead mix until it comes together and a dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 180 ° C (fan 160 ° C), Gas mark 4 and line two baking trays with baking paper. Shape the biscuit dough into finger-thick rolls and lay on the baking tray, leaving enough space between each biscuit in case they spread in the oven.
  6. Place the flaked almonds on the biscuits to look like fingernails, press down a little to make sure they stick. Using a knife, carefully draw lines to look like knuckles.
  7. Place in the oven for approximately 15 minutes, until they start to brown a little.
  8. Leave to cool on a wire rack before serving.
