For the cake
  • 180g Flora Buttery, melted
  • 175g self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp golden syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 150ml milk
For the icing and decoration
  • 100g Flora Buttery, fridge temperature
  • 220g icing sugar
  • 40g cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp milk (a little more if needed)
  • Cake sprinkles
  • Vanilla custard (optional)
  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas mark 4. Lightly grease the base of two 18cm sandwich tins.
  2. Add the flour, cocoa powder and bicarbonate of soda into a mixing bowl. Add the caster sugar and mix until the mixture is well combined.
  3. Make a well in the centre. Add the golden syrup, eggs, melted Flora Buttery and milk. Beat well with an electric whisk until smooth.
  4. Pour the cake mixture into the tins.
  5. Bake for approximately 20-25 mins or until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. If any wet mixture clings to the skewer, return to the oven for 5 mins, then check again.
  6. Leave to cool for 10 mins in the tins before turning out onto a cooling rack.
  7. Prepare the icing by beating the Flora spread until soft.
  8. Gradually beat in the icing sugar and cocoa powder, then add enough of the milk to make the icing easily spreadable.
  9. Sandwich together the 2 layers of cake with the frosting.
  10. Cover the sides and the top of the cake with more icing and decorate with some colourful cake sprinkles.
